Have you ever taken a cruise and run the gauntlet of vendors at a port call? Or, shopped at tourist markets while on vacation in places like Cancun Mexico, The Bahamas or Jamacia? It seems like each of these vendors sees vacationers as ‘green’; they think, “the more stuff we have, the more they’ll buy.” What a bunch of clutter! Sometimes, at trade shows, I experience the same feeling. I find many exhibitors over-staffing and over-showing.
Studies have shown (there are many, I’m sure) that the brain can only comprehend a certain amount of information. For example, most people have a short-term memory limiation of 7 numbers. Therefore phone numbers in the US are 7 numbers in length (excluding the area code obviously). We’re also limited to reading only a few letters of vertical text since our brain is trained early on to recognize horizontal text.
In the first volume of “What’s New in Exhibit Design”, we discussed the use of back-lighting to grab attention. Considering the shape and form of exhibit graphics provides another opportunity to cut through the clutter at trade shows. Convention regulations can limit the ability of a designer, especially in those 10′x10′ or 10′x20′ inline spaces.
However, new options, like those shown these photos, provide ways to demand attention & interest with depth, dimension and shapes of graphics.
1.) PictureScape – Custom-Shaped Displays
A sleek exhibit system that allows for custom-shaped fabric backwall designs that ship compactly.
2.) Myriad Inline Banner Stands
Designed for impact, flexibility & merchandising – Myriad gives you a full inline display with just two retractable banner stands. The center panel adds depth & dimension.
3.) Shapes Banner Stands – Dual-Layered
The most unique banner stand available – Shhapes gives you visual impact & depth with layered graphics, profiled to complement your message.
